What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a skilled professional to perform technical work in support of the Facilities Management & Engineering organization. Primary responsibilities include maintaining critical building, systems, and infrastructure drawings, databases, and diagrams, as well as creating and managing detailed 3D models, layouts, illustrations, and maps. This role collaborates closely with planning, space management, architects, and engineering personnel to support engineering, operations, and maintenance projects.
The ideal candidate will apply mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering systems expertise, along with relevant technical knowledge related to design, drafting, information gathering, and systems interpretation.
This position primarily requires Revit-based Building Information Modeling (BIM) technical expertise. The candidate will utilize strong engineering design, modeling, and drafting skills, and demonstrate proficiency with various engineering toolsets, including, but not limited to, 3D BIM and drawing management applications. The candidate will also be responsible for performing quality assurance reviews on project documents and updates.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Utilize 3D Revit modeling software to create, organize, and maintain multidisciplinary BIM models; transition existing 2D AutoCAD drawings to 3D, applying BIM standards, templates, and execution workflows.
- Develop, modify, and maintain building, system, and infrastructure drawings, including digital construction content such as Revit families, templates, and detail components, to improve quality and accuracy of documentation.
- Manage drawing requests and project folders using the latest drawing management software; transmit current files to requestors, receive and organize drawings at project closeout, identify and retrieve missing files, and update models and drawings to complete project roll-up.
- Update information database systems and related engineering applications to ensure accurate and current documentation.
- Perform field walks to gather information, conduct studies and calculations, and prepare original layouts and sketches for proposed designs.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and customers to discuss and interpret design concepts and determine requirements for detailed working drawings.
- Perform quality assurance checks to ensure building and system drawings are maintained in accordance with standards, specifications, and contracts.
- Execute work based on Maximo service requests, applying configuration management principles and tools to establish and maintain drawing management practices, including centralized space management assignments and numbering.
- Provide day-to-day support for Operations teams in support of projects, maintenance and operations.
The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range
$74,700 - $144,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- High School diploma plus three (3) years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience with the following:
- Revit and AutoCAD.
- Drawing management.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with some or all the following software platforms Autodesk Construction Cloud, ProjectWise, Autodesk Vault and Bluebeam software.
- Ability to support multidisciplinary model coordination and perform basic clash detection.
- Commitment to learning new software, tools, workflows, and responsibilities while supporting department and Lab-wide initiatives.
- Ability to independently prioritize and complete multiple and competing assignments.
- Skilled in teamwork and self-management; enables others working in the process to do their work effectively.
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs.
- Active DOE L-level security clearance or equivalent (e.g., DOD Secret).
About Our Team
The Sandia CADD/BIM department delivers comprehensive management of Facilities Engineering building and systems records. Our team specializes in both 2D CADD and 3D BIM software technologies, ensuring accurate and efficient documentation. Additionally, we employ advanced Light Imaging Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology to rapidly capture and provide data sets of existing and as-built conditions. LiDAR is utilized across our Design, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance departments.
The team offers matrixed design services to various internal customers and supports the In-house Design department. We also collaborate with external Architectural Engineering (A/E) partners to ensure high-quality project deliverables. The department is recognized as a leader within the Department of Energy (DOE) community for its expertise in similar work and technology.
Posting Duration

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
