Medical Laboratory Scientist II

Prepares and test patient specimens, establishing and ensuring acceptable levels of QC are maintained. This requires knowledge of laboratory quality control principles, analytical troubleshooting, instrumentation operation, calibration procedures, and interpretation of quality assurance data to ensure accuracy and reliability of patient test results. Assist in performing CAP and AABB inspections. Responsible for ensuring requirements of the CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA (as applicable to section/shift) are followed and in compliance. Assist with instrument calibration/validations, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance. Collaborate as needed with providers in diagnosing and monitoring patient testing and results. Examine and analyze blood, bodily fluids, tissues, and cells. Assist with training of new employees and students. All other duties assigned related to the laboratory. Special Skills: Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered; Good knowledge of test menu and ability to manage requisitions/orders; Demonstrate ability to perform basic functions in the hospital information system; Clear communicator; Speak, read, and write English fluently; Ability to accurately interpret laboratory test results, recognize abnormal or critical values, and communicate findings appropriately to healthcare providers; Knowledge of laboratory regulatory and accreditation standards including CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA compliance requirements. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Biological Science or Clinical Lab Science or related field required. MT(ASCP), or MLS (ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) or equivalent required. At least 24 months of Medical Laboratory Scientist experience in a lab is required, preferably in a hospital laboratory setting. Salary range: $30.28 to $45.26 per hour.
