Description
The Director of Assessment and Accreditation provides strategic leadership for assessment, accreditation, data reporting, and continuous improvement within the Julia S. Tutwiler College of Education. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Education, the Director leads the College’s quality assurance and assessment processes and coordinates activities necessary to maintain compliance with institutional, state, federal, and professional accreditation requirements.
The Director promotes a culture of continuous improvement by translating assessment and accreditation requirements into effective processes and supporting faculty and leadership in using evidence to strengthen programs and candidate outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Accreditation Leadership & Compliance
- Serve as the College’s primary resource and coordinator for accreditation through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), including accreditation planning, annual reporting, self-study development, evidence collection, accreditation reviews, and site visits.
- Coordinate College-level activities associated with state, federal, institutional, and specialized accreditation and reporting requirements, including requirements of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), Specialized Professional Associations (SPAs), CACREP, and other programmatic accreditors, SACSCOC, and applicable federal reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain multi-year accreditation plans and an annual assessment and accreditation calendar to ensure timely completion of reporting, program review, assessment, survey administration, and accreditation activities.
- Maintain a comprehensive and organized repository of accreditation evidence, assessment results, reports, and continuous improvement documentation to ensure ongoing accreditation readiness.
- Coordinate preparation for accreditation and program review visits, including timelines, evidence preparation and verification, stakeholder preparation, review activities, and follow-up requirements.
Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze and communicate assessment and performance data to identify trends, strengths, areas of concern, and opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate systematic review and interpretation of data with college leadership, departments, programs, and faculty.
- Assist faculty and program coordinators in using assessment findings to inform curricular, instructional, clinical, and programmatic decisions and documenting resulting continuous improvement efforts.
- Develop reports, summaries, presentations, and other data products that clearly communicate candidate performance, program outcomes, and EPP effectiveness to internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide data and analysis to support College strategic planning, program evaluation, decision-making, and evaluation of progress toward established goals.
Collaboration & Strategic Support
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the Dean and College leadership regarding assessment, accreditation, educator preparation accountability, program quality, and emerging state and national expectations affecting educator preparation.
- Directly work with College of Education Program Coordinators on annual reporting, data requests, and other items related to assessment and accreditation.
- Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research, Academic Affairs, Information Technology, and other University offices to obtain, validate, analyze, and report data necessary for assessment and accreditation.
- Work collaboratively with department chairs, program coordinators, faculty, and staff to ensure assessment and accreditation responsibilities are effectively communicated and completed.
- Utilize institutional systems, including Colleague and Blackboard, and other appropriate technologies to support data collection, analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement processes.
- Represent the College on appropriate University committees and at state, regional, and national meetings related to assessment, accreditation, educator preparation, and institutional effectiveness.
- Maintain current knowledge of accreditation standards, assessment practices, educator preparation policy, data reporting requirements, and emerging trends affecting colleges of education.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Education or other appropriate University administrators.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education, Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Assessment/Evaluation, Research, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in assessment, accreditation, institutional effectiveness, data analysis/reporting, educator preparation, or a related area.
- Demonstrated ability to collect, manage, analyze, interpret, and communicate quantitative and qualitative data.
- Strong understanding of assessment, program evaluation, data-informed decision-making, and continuous improvement practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, reporting cycles, and multiple deadlines involving a variety of stakeholders.
- Excellent written, oral, organizational, project management, and collaborative skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use technology and information systems for data collection, management, analysis, and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Education, Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Assessment/Evaluation, Research, or a related field.
- Direct experience with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), including accreditation preparation, annual reporting, self-study development, evidence management, or accreditation review.
- Experience working within an educator preparation provider (EPP), College or School of Education, or similar academic environment.
- Experience with specialized professional accreditation or program review processes, including CACREP or other professional accrediting organizations.
- Experience developing, implementing, maintaining, or evaluating a comprehensive assessment or quality assurance system.
- Experience facilitating faculty use of assessment data for program evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Experience preparing accreditation reports, self-studies, evidence repositories, or materials for accreditation and program review visits.
- Familiarity with student information systems and learning management systems, including Colleague and Blackboard.
