About United & Empowered Care
United & Empowered Care is a mission-driven organization dedicated to providing high-quality care and support services across the Hampton Roads community. We believe that empowering our staff allows us to deliver the highest standard of care to those we serve. As we continue to expand our impact, we are seeking a dedicated, on-staff Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to lead our internal financial operations, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide strategic financial oversight.
Why Make the Pivot? The Perks of Going Internal:
If you are currently surviving the grueling "busy season" cycles of public accounting, endless billable hours, and constant client turnover, this role offers a refreshing rewrite of your career path:
- True Work-Life Balance: Say goodbye to 70-hour weeks. Enjoy a predictable, stable Monday–Friday schedule with reasonable hours year-round.
- No More Billable Hours: Shift your focus from tracking every 15 minutes of your day to driving real, long-term organizational value.
- Instead of juggling dozens of external clients, you will deeply understand, manage, and optimize the financial health of a single, meaningful organization.
- Purpose-Driven Work: Your financial expertise directly supports a company that cares for and empowers members of your local Hampton Roads community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight & Reporting: Manage day-to-day corporate accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, monthly/quarterly closing processes, medical billing, Invoicing, and the preparation of accurate financial statements.
- Regulatory & Tax Compliance: Oversee state, federal, and local tax filings, ensure compliance with healthcare/care industry regulations, and process and manage any specialized payroll reporting requirements.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with executive leadership to design, monitor, and optimize annual operational budgets and cash flow projections.
- Internal Controls & Audit Prep: Establish, maintain, and enforce robust internal control systems to protect company assets and lead the preparation for external annual audits.
- Strategic Advising: Translate complex financial metrics and data into plain, actionable advice to help executive leadership make informed business decisions.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Active CPA License: Must hold or be working to obtain an active Certified Public Accountant designation in good standing with the Virginia Board of Accountancy (VBOA).
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- A background in public accounting (audit or tax) is highly preferred, but corporate accounting experience in healthcare, non-profit, or care services is also a strong asset.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep familiarity with modern accounting ERP software, automated payroll solutions, and advanced Microsoft Excel models.
- Hampton Roads Local: Must be residing in or planning relocation to the Hampton Roads metropolitan area for daily onsite operations
