Description

The responsibilities of this role include managing the sourcing and purchasing of lumber and plywood products. This role requires strong market knowledge, negotiation skills, and the ability to balance cost, quality, and inventory levels in a fast-paced environment.

Purchase dimensional lumber, plywood and specialty wood products

Build and maintain relationships with mills, wholesalers, and suppliers
Negotiate pricing, terms, and freight agreements
Monitor market trends and pricing fluctuations
Manage inventory levels to meet demand while minimizing excess
Work closely with sales and operations teams to forecast needs
Ensure materials meet required grades and quality standards
Identify new suppliers and cost-saving opportunities
Track and report purchasing performance and market insights
Other duties as assigned

Requirements

3+ years of experience as a lumber buyer or in building materials purchasing

Strong knowledge of lumber species, grades, and market conditions; ability to analyze market trends and make informed buying decisions
Proven negotiation and vendor management skills
Proficiency in Excel and purchasing/inventory systems
Experience buying directly from mills
Background in construction or building supply 

Able to successfully pass a criminal background check (following a conditional offer of employment)

Ability to sit/stand at desk/workstation for prolonged periods of time; frequent use of hands/fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse; repetitive hand/wrist motions
