Job Description:
Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000
The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University, State University of New York, seeks an administrator to work with the senior director and assistant director of the Watson College Industrial Outreach Office. This position works closely with the Dean's Office of the College, along with other faculty and staff, developing online education in engineering, professional development, and workforce development. This position will also support faculty with the delivery of Watson Online education, ensuring that best practices in online education are observed.
The Administrator of Online Learning and Professional Development plays a pivotal role in expanding Watson College's mission to provide lifelong learning opportunities for industry professionals and off-campus students. This position is responsible for the development, coordination, and delivery of high-quality, market-aligned online credit bearing and non-credit-bearing programs, including courses, workshops, microcredentials, skills badges, and certificates. The administrator will work closely with college leadership, faculty, and industry partners to identify workforce needs and translate them into accessible and impactful online educational initiatives, leveraging strong instructional design principles to ensure program efficacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Development and Innovation: Lead the creation of new not-for-credit courses and assist with the skills badging or micro-credential development process in collaboration with the provost's office, dean's office, faculty, and department chairs. Apply best practices in instructional design to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality of online and hybrid programs, focusing on best practices in instructional design, accessibility, and assessment. Manage Learning Management System (LMS) operations and ensure compliance with regulations. Leverage new technology to improve the quality and value of our learning offerings.
- Team Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise instructional support technicians and associates, students and graduate assistants by providing guidance and managing workloads to support program delivery and quality standards.
- Industry Collaboration and Needs Assessment: Work with industry to identify skill gaps and develop targeted online and blended learning programs, including private offerings.
- Outreach, Recruitment, and Marketing: Collaborate on marketing efforts to promote outreach programs and assist with recruitment and retention plans.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting: Build relationships with partners and report on programming outcomes.
- Grant Writing and Administration: Identify and assist the Watson Industrial Outreach Office with writing grants for program support and help to manage awarded grants.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of online learning technologies and LMSs (e.g., Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard).
- Project and time management.
- Ability to work with diverse groups, faculty, and researchers.
- Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
- Data analysis skills.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- At least four years of experience in higher education, industry outreach, or a related field
- Experience managing projects and developing online programs
- Demonstrated experience applying instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, backwards design) to educational content
- Experience in a supervisory or team leadership role
Preferred:
- Master's or PhD degree in a related field (e.g., instructional design, education technology, engineering) from a regionally accredited institution
- Experience working in or with STEM subject matter experts (SMEs)
- Experience with skills credentialing and micro-credentials
- Experience in higher education with credit-bearing online programs
- Experience with workforce development grants
- Experience with AI and emerging technologies for instructional design
- Knowledge of digital accessibility standards (ADA/Section 508)
- Knowledge of SUNY OSCQR and RSI standards
