Hi, we’re Speks, a Brooklyn-based product design company creating premium sensory products for teens and adults. We sell globally across wholesale, retail, and DTC, and we’re growing fast.
We’re looking for a Compliance & Risk Manager to own the parts of the business that cannot break.
This is a hands-on role responsible for making sure our products, vendors, operations, and documentation are fully compliant across regulatory standards, retail requirements, and internal processes. You will also own insurance, customs, and risk management across the company.
If something goes wrong with compliance, this role is where it lands. If everything runs smoothly, you are the reason why.
This is a full-time, in-office (or hybrid) role based in Brooklyn, NY.
What You’ll Do:
Product and regulatory compliance
Ensure all products meet required standards across the US and international markets including CPSIA, ASTM, EN71, labeling, and more
Manage testing, certifications, documentation, and audit readiness
Stay on top of regulatory changes and adapt quickly when needed
Vendor compliance and setup
Own onboarding and compliance for factories and suppliers
Ensure all vendors meet testing, documentation, and certification requirements
Keep vendor files clean, complete, and up to date
Identify risks in the supply chain before they become problems
Retail and wholesale compliance
Make sure we meet all retailer requirements including Walmart, Target, specialty, and distributors
Manage COIs, testing documentation, labeling, and vendor setup requirements
Support onboarding for new retail partners and ongoing compliance needs
Insurance and risk management
Own all company insurance policies including general liability, product liability, cargo, and credit insurance
Work with brokers to source, evaluate, and negotiate new policies as needed
Ensure coverage meets retailer and operational requirements
Handle claims and ongoing policy management
Legal and contract coordination
Work with outside counsel on contracts, compliance, and risk-related issues
Help review and organize agreements across retail, vendors, and licensing
Maintain clean, accessible legal documentation
Customs, duties, and tariffs management
Manage import and export compliance including documentation, classifications, and filings
Work with brokers to ensure smooth and compliant shipments
Track duties and tariffs and flag risks or cost issues
Keep things moving without surprises
Accessibility, internal + light HR compliance
Ensure compliance with accessibility standards including ADA and digital accessibility where applicable
Maintain internal policies and documentation across compliance and safety
Help maintain basic HR policies and documentation
Support onboarding and offboarding compliance processes
