Job Title: Water System Operator
Pay: $30–$35/hour
Location: 14 Squanto Road, Sagamore Beach MA
Job Type: Full-time
We’re looking for a versatile Water System Operator to handle both water treatment and distribution. You’ll operate the treatment plant, maintain the distribution system, replace meters, respond to emergencies, and help keep our community’s water safe and reliable.
Requirements:
Massachusetts D1 and T1 OIT licenses (D2/T2 preferred)
Minimum 2 years water operations experience
Valid driver’s license; CDL hoisting license preferred
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors, and perform hands-on maintenance

Requirements
Position Summary
The Water System Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the District’s water treatment and distribution system. This position requires versatility in both treatment plant operations and field distribution work, including system maintenance, sampling, repairs, meter replacements, and participation in the on-call rotation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate, monitor, and maintain water treatment facilities in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Perform daily distribution system duties, including valve operation, hydrant maintenance, leak detection, flushing, system inspections, and water meter replacements.
Conduct routine water quality sampling, testing, and documentation.
Assist with repairs of mains, services, pumps, valves, and related infrastructure.
Operate heavy equipment and vehicles as needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
Respond to after-hours emergencies as part of the on-call rotation.
Maintain accurate logs, reports, and records for regulatory compliance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Massachusetts D1 and T1 OIT licenses required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in water treatment, distribution, or utility operations.
Ability to perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.
Basic mechanical, electrical, or plumbing aptitude.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
D2 and T2 licenses strongly preferred.
Hoisting license.
Work Environment
Combination of treatment plant operations and field distribution work.
Exposure to outdoor weather, confined spaces, and typical utility worksite conditions.
Participation in the on-call rotation with some nights, weekends, and emergency call-ins.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and operate tools/equipment required for system maintenance and meter replacement tasks.
