Position Description
This is an in-person internship based in Fresno, CA.
Job Purpose
This position is responsible for supporting the Technology Innovation team in exploring emerging artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and maintaining the operational systems that power Lyles Group companies. This role provides unique exposure to the full spectrum of construction technology—from experimenting with artificial intelligence and machine learning applications to supporting enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, financial platforms, and job costing tools used across our organizations.
Job responsibilities are balanced between forward-looking innovation projects, such as researching and prototyping AI solutions, and foundational operational support by learning construction ERP systems, assisting with system configurations, and supporting end-users. Success in this role requires both technical curiosity and a willingness to understand the construction business processes these technologies support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support research and implementation of AI and machine learning (ML) tools applicable to construction operations, including generative AI, predictive analytics, and automation
- Assist in developing and testing AI-powered prototypes and proof-of-concept web applications to improve construction estimating, scheduling, job costing, and financial workflows
- Learn and support the company's construction ERP and internal web applications (.NET, Next.js, React, Tailwind, CSS), gaining exposure to project management, job costing, equipment tracking, and financial integration modules
- Assist in documenting business processes, system configurations, and data flows across construction and finance systems
- Participate in data analysis projects that bridge operational reporting and AI/ML applications, learning to extract insights from construction project data
- Support user training and troubleshooting efforts to understand of how different roles interact with enterprise platforms
- Collaborate with operations, finance, and project teams to identify pain points and technology-driven solutions
- Participate in system testing and quality assurance for AI initiatives and existing system enhancements or configurations
- Contribute to documentation of AI experiments, system procedures, and lessons learned
- Assist with data management tasks including data quality checks, database queries, and preparing datasets for analysis or machine learning
- Shadow experienced team members across both innovation projects and operational support activities
- Research emerging trends in construction technology and artificial intelligence and share insights with the team
- Support special projects that integrate AI capabilities into existing operational systems
- Execute additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Education and Experience
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field
- Coursework or project experience in at least one of the following:
- Web development (React, Next.js)
- Software engineering
- Artificial intelligence
- Data analytics
- Database Management
- Enterprise systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Desired Skills and Knowledge
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#/.NET, or SQL preferred
- Demonstrated interest in or prior exposure to construction, engineering, or project-based industries
- Experience or interest in modern web development with React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, or similar frameworks
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to learn new software systems and technical tools quickly
- Comfort working in both independent research and collaborative team environments
