The City of Crest Hill is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Superintendent of the Water Division. Reporting to the Director of Public Works, this leadership position oversees the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the City’s municipal water system.
With a new Director of Public Works appointed in 2025, the Department is building on a strong foundation and focused on the road ahead. The Superintendent leads the daily operations of the Water Division, supervises division personnel, and ensures compliance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations while maintaining reliable and efficient water service for the community.

Recent investments include a modern Public Works facility built in 2019, a new wastewater treatment plant nearing completion, and a 40,000-square-foot City Center housing municipal offices. The City also features a robust industrial park anchored by Amazon and expanding commercial districts supported by two TIF districts with a third in development.

The Superintendent of Water plays an important leadership role within the Public Works Department, working closely with the Director of Public Works to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the City’s water system.
This position leads a dedicated team responsible for maintaining wells, water distribution infrastructure, meters, and system operations that provide essential service to residents and businesses. The Superintendent will guide daily operations, support staff development, and contribute to the continued improvement of Crest Hill’s water services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the daily operations of the Water Division.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate water system personnel.
- Serve as the Responsible Operator in Charge for the City’s water system.
- Serve as liaison to regional water or watershed organizations as needed.
- Ensure compliance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of wells, pumps, motors, and water system equipment.
- Administer SCADA and other operational technology systems used at water facilities.
- Manage the City’s water meter program and coordinate service requests and customer concerns.
- Develop operational budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Perform water inspections related to construction and development projects.
- Prepare reports and present information to City leadership and City Council.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Illinois Class B Water Operator License required.
- Experience with municipal water system operations preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of water system operations, regulatory requirements, and public works practices.
- Municipal public works and management experience preferred.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Valid Driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
