THE OPPORTUNITY
The Village of Sebewaing seeks a forward-thinking, strategic executive to serve as Superintendent of its municipally owned electric, water, and fiber utilities. This is a unique opportunity to lead a community-focused multi-utility system through a period of infrastructure modernization in electric, broadband, water, and wholesale power market evolution.
Key leadership priorities include:
Advancing electric system reliability and resiliency
Guiding capital improvement and infrastructure modernization efforts
Ensuring long-term financial sustainability and rate stability
Managing wholesale power strategy and regulatory compliance
Supporting continued fiber growth and high-quality water service
Leading and developing a team of 10 employees
ABOUT THE UTILITY
Sebewaing Light & Water serves 1,280 electric customers, 988 water customers, and 778 fiber customers. The electric utility maintains 7.7 MW of internal peaking generation capacity and participates in a joint action agency for wholesale power supply. Total annual revenues exceed $7.1 million across all utilities.
The 1.7-square-mile service territory extends into surrounding township area and includes primarily residential customers along with key agricultural and industrial users.
GOVERNANCE
The utility operates under oversight of a Village Utility Committee composed of two Council members and the Village President. The Superintendent serves as chief executive officer and is entrusted with full responsibility for operations, personnel management, financial oversight, capital planning, and implementation of policy direction established by the Committee and Village Council.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, public administration, finance, or related field
Strong leadership, communication, and community engagement skills
Experience in budgeting, long-range financial planning, and capital improvement programs
Knowledge of rate design, wholesale power supply, and regulatory compliance preferred
Municipal or public power experience strongly preferred
COMPENSATION & RESIDENCY
Salary range: $100,000 – $150,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a competitive benefits package. The selected candidate is expected to relocate to the Sebewaing area within a reasonable period following appointment.
