Position Summary
Pay: $125,000.00 - $140,000.00
We are seeking an experienced Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor RPLS to lead and manage our Survey Department. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience as an RPLS in both public and private sector projects and possess extensive knowledge of surveying practices, regulations, and development processes in various counties in Texas
This leadership role requires strong technical expertise, operational oversight, client relationship management, and the ability to mentor and develop survey staff while ensuring quality, compliance, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Management
Lead, manage, and grow the Survey Department, including field and office staff.
Oversee project scheduling, resource allocation, and workload forecasting.
Establish and enforce quality control QC and quality assurance QA standards.
Mentor and develop survey crews, technicians, and SITs.
Participate in recruiting, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Technical Oversight
Responsible for signing and sealing survey documents in accordance with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Oversee preparation and review of:
Boundary surveys
Topographic surveys
ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
Construction staking
Subdivision plans
Easement and right-of-way surveys
TxDOT
Ensure compliance with:
Harris County Engineering Department requirements
Harris County Flood Control District standards
City of Houston ordinances and development codes
TxDOT standards
Applicable Texas statutes and surveying standards of practice
Project & Client Management
Serve as primary point of contact for clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
Prepare proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
Monitor project performance to ensure timely and profitable completion.
Support business development initiatives and maintain key client relationships.
Regulatory & Local Expertise
Counties and City agencies within and adjoining the City of Houston
Local floodplain regulations
Title commitment review and resolution
Coordination with utility districts MUDs
Strong working knowledge of regional control networks and common boundary issues within Southeast Texas.
Minimum Qualifications
Active Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor RPLS license in good standing.
Minimum 10 years of experience as an RPLS in both public and private sector projects.
Demonstrated experience managing survey teams and multiple concurrent projects.
Extensive experience in Harris County and surrounding counties (Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria, Galveston, etc.).
Strong knowledge of Texas surveying laws and standards of practice.
Proficiency in Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, survey data processing software, and modern GNSS/robotic equipment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Established relationships with local engineers, developers, municipalities, and agencies.
Experience supporting large-scale land development and infrastructure projects.
Business development and department growth experience.
Strong understanding of floodplain certificates and FEMA documentation.
