Quail Valley Golf Club is a semi-private golf facility located just outside Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Known for its challenging layout, exceptional course conditions, and welcoming customer service, Quail Valley is a preferred destination for both local golfers and those traveling from the Harrisburg, Frederick, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas.
Position Summary
The General Manager is responsible for providing overall leadership and strategic direction for Quail Valley Golf Club, overseeing daily operations, financial performance, and membership growth. This role drives the club's success through the development and execution of sound business strategies, a strong commitment to member satisfaction, and the cultivation of a positive, high-performing workplace culture. The General Manager is accountable for achieving financial and operational objectives while maintaining open and effective communication with ownership.
Experience Required
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business, Professional Golf Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in public or private golf clubs or luxury hospitality environments.
- Proven success in managing both membership initiatives and golf operations.
- Strong financial acumen, including P&L responsibility, budgeting, and data-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Multi-course management experience with a demonstrated commitment to pace-of-play excellence.
- PGA and/or CMAA certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move items up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Frequent walking on uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely operate golf carts and related golf course equipment.
- Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Sufficient visual acuity and hearing to perform job duties safely and effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, via radio, and over the phone.
- Availability to work extended hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays during peak season.
Essential Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Fiscal & Operational Management
- Collaborate with ownership to establish the club's vision, strategic goals, and operational direction.
- Partner with ownership to plan and execute long-term initiatives and capital improvement projects.
- Develop, manage, and execute the annual operating plan and budget.
- Oversee profit and loss statements, financial forecasts, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Maximize revenue across Golf Operations and Food & Beverage while identifying operational efficiencies.
- Supervise purchasing, vendor relationships, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
- Recruit, develop, and evaluate a high-performing leadership team across Agronomy, Golf Operations, and Food & Beverage.
Agronomy
- Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and ownership to ensure exceptional course conditions, consistency, and playability.
Golf Operations
- Oversee all golf-related functions, including course operations, pro shop retail, tournaments, instruction, and practice facilities.
- Monitor pace of play, service standards, and tournament execution to ensure excellence and consistency.
- Serve as the primary liaison for club members by fostering strong relationships, responsiveness, and trust.
- Drive membership retention while supporting targeted growth initiatives.
- Lead golf outings and events to enhance member engagement and attract new business.
Food & Beverage
- Oversee all Food & Beverage operations, including daily service, tournament and outing catering, and special events.
- Develop and introduce new events and service offerings to increase utilization of existing facilities.
Community & Brand Engagement
- Represent Quail Valley Golf Club within local and regional golf, hospitality, and business communities.
- Build strategic partnerships with local businesses and tourism organizations to strengthen brand awareness.
- Uphold and enhance the club's reputation as a premier golf and lifestyle destination.
