Primary Function
The Director of Training and Consulting is responsible for overseeing consulting and professional development opportunities that support nonprofit leaders across Oklahoma, with particular emphasis on expanding the Center’s consulting capacity and managing consulting engagements statewide. This position is a key team member for the Center's training and consulting services and will be expected to deliver course instruction in both public seminars and consulting engagements. As a key leader supporting the Center’s training, the person in this role is responsible for overseeing curriculum design and instruction for in-person, online, and hybrid learning, as well as regular conferences, summits, and networking events that facilitate learning. The position collaborates with the training team to support program design and delivery. This role is primarily responsible for the growth, management, and quality assurance of the Center’s consulting portfolio.
Essential Functions
Consulting Capacity Development and Engagement Management
- Lead the expansion of the Center’s consulting capacity by proactively identifying, soliciting, and securing consulting engagements with nonprofit organizations across Oklahoma;
- Serve as a primary point of contact for consulting inquiries, working with internal teams to scope projects, develop proposals, establish pricing, and manage client relationships throughout the lifecycle of engagements;
- Build, recruit, and maintain a network of qualified subject-matter consultants to support the Center’s consulting services; identify opportunities for exclusive or preferred consultant relationships that strengthen statewide service delivery;
- Match consultants to engagements based on expertise, client needs, and organizational priorities; oversee engagement quality, timelines, and deliverables to ensure client satisfaction and measurable outcomes;
- Develop and refine systems that track consulting opportunities, engagements, consultant utilization, and performance metrics to support the strategic growth of consulting services;
- Collaborate with marketing, membership, and external affairs teams to promote consulting services and increase awareness of the Center’s advisory and facilitation offerings;
- Contribute to the development of consulting service lines that address emerging sector needs, including governance, leadership transitions, strategic planning, financial management, and organizational effectiveness;
- Work with Center leadership to establish consulting growth goals, monitor progress, and recommend strategies that expand the Center’s consulting footprint statewide.
Training Opportunities
- Oversees the implementation of all the Center’s professional development opportunities and ensures that programs are delivered with the highest professional standards, including but not limited to scheduling events, setting course calendars, designing curricula, working with teaching and consulting staff to develop new programs, and conducting needs-based analyses and assessing program effectiveness;
- Oversee the coordination of all training opportunities, including Nonprofit Management Certification Program, Standards for Excellence, the semi-annual Nonprofit Law and Finance Conference, Leadership and Innovation, and general workshops and online webinars;
- Works with the Programs team to monitor the scheduling of all courses, the registration process, and logistics for venues, supplies, and speaker contracts.
- Manages program design and delivery, supervising and coordinating with Center staff who provide training;
- Evaluates all courses and adjusts program design as needed;
- Sets budget and monitors progress regarding income and expenses;
- Provides instruction or facilitation for select courses and programs, particularly those aligned with consulting service areas.
Membership Engagement
- Cultivates membership retention and new membership engagement through consulting services, training opportunities, and helplines;
- Engages as relevant with other state associations’ membership and training opportunities for Oklahoma nonprofits;
- Actively develops rapport with Member organizations and their representative(s) through classroom engagement and the general Center environment;
- Attends and provides support for, as available, membership events as a representative of Training and Consulting services.
Consulting, Coaching, and Facilitation Services
- Works with external organizations to provide mentoring, coaching, and other service support;
- Provide reliable counsel to nonprofit leaders based on best practices for managing professionals and boards of directors;
- Conduct facilitation for strategic plans for nonprofit organizations and be able to deliver training to boards of directors to develop governance practices;
- Provide staff and team development, including coaching, group building, and management support;
- Creates “train the trainer” opportunities for the Center’s staff to grow in instruction and facilitation skills;
- Use consulting and coaching skills internally to provide support to the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits staff and leadership.

Requirements
Education and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, master’s preferred. In lieu of a degree, job experience will be accepted upon approval from the President and CEO;
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations and/or professionals and volunteers’ ability to transfer that knowledge to course design and curriculum;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products;
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation).
Experience
- Experience in related fields, such as training and development, performance management, adult education, instructional design, human relations, and nonprofit leadership, is preferred;
- Must have some experience in working with or volunteering in a nonprofit organization.
