JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Athletics, Safety, Security, and Emergency Management serves as the district’s chief administrator for comprehensive athletic programs and all safety, security, and emergency preparedness initiatives. This position requires an exceptional leader who can simultaneously manage complex athletic operations while ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, and facilities across the district. The director leads district-wide efforts in prevention/mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery while overseeing interscholastic athletic programs that promote student success, safety, and sportsmanship. This position serves as the primary liaison between coaches, student-athletes, families, school administration, community stakeholders, and local/regional emergency response agencies to create safe, compliant, and exemplary programs that serve the entire school community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Athletic Program Administration:
- Organizes and administers all interscholastic athletic programs.
- District point of contact for coordination and partnership with community recreational youth sports organizations.
- Oversees hiring and evaluation of athletic coaches.
- Coordinates WIAA certification and eligibility program.
- Serves as the district Title IX coordinator; ensures Title IX compliance and establishes eligibility requirements.
- Serves on district athletic planning team.
Athletic Operations and Event Management:
- Schedules all athletic events, activities, and maintains athletic calendar.
- Arranges transportation, officials, and event workers.
- Supervises games and coordinates visiting team logistics.
- Manages concessions, ticket sales, and fundraising operations.
- Ensures compliance for health, safety, and conduct regulations for participants.
Athletic Budget and Resource Management:
- Prepares and administers athletic program budget.
- Requisitions supplies, uniforms, and equipment.
- Supervises equipment maintenance, cleaning, and storage.
- Promotes positive school-community relations.
Safety and Security Program Management:
- Manages district employee safety programs and facilitates safety committees.
- Investigates safety concerns and recommends corrective actions.
- Implements safety plans district-wide and maintains records.
Security Operations and Campus Safety:
- Manages district security operations and trains School Security Officers.
- Advises administrators on security matters and develops training programs.
- Coordinates with local law enforcement.
- Conducts investigations and maintains confidentiality.
- Analyzes incident reports for patterns and planning purposes.
Emergency Management and Preparedness:
- Develops and facilitates emergency response training using Incident Command System.
- Coordinates Emergency Operations Center and serves as liaison with emergency agencies.
- Maintains emergency supplies, NIMS compliance, and emergency communications.
- Processes and updates Incident Command Systems.
- Maintains emergency drill records and school mapping systems.
Crisis Response and Technical Assistance:
- Provides technical assistance for crisis prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Oversees District Crisis Response Team.
- Advises on emergency conditions and regulatory changes.
- Manages student safety and risk prevention programs.
Facility Safety and Compliance:
- Submits work orders to address safety issues on district property.
- Implements crime prevention programs and facility modifications.
- Oversees hazardous materials compliance and manages MSDS database.
- Monitors FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan and coordinates updates.
Professional Development and Compliance:
- Participates in safety-related meetings, workshops, and seminars.
- Consults with regulatory agencies and communicates updates.
- Coordinates safety committee activities.
- Prepares and maintains required reports.
- Supports budget development for safety and security programs.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Other safety, insurance, risk, hazard mitigation, emergency management, security, and athletic-related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education, Juvenile Justice, Law Enforcement, Law, Public Administration, Social Science, Emergency Management, or other applicable fields. Additional qualifying experience and certification may substitute for the educational requirement.
- Three (3) years of increasingly successful experience in safety program management, crisis intervention, security management, education administration, or other applicable fields.
- Three (3) years Athletic Director experience or five (5) years head coaching experience preferred.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of current insurance.
- First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate preferred.
