The Chief Probation Officer reports to State Probation Administrator and is responsible for contributing to systemic leadership and directing the operation of an entire District Probation Office. Responsibilities may include: Serving as the face of the probation district, engaging with all stakeholders, including but not limited to judges, law enforcement, politicians, treatment facilities, community organizations, referral resources, supervising and directing all evidenced-based probation services designed to enhance community safety and probation employees including Probation Supervisors, Probation Officers, Juvenile Justice Resource Supervisor, Probation District Placement Coordinator, Specialized Populations Officer and other administrative support staff for the district; developing and managing the budget, purchasing, inventory and accounting functions; authorizes expenditures; disseminating and ensuring compliance of all laws, rules, and directives pertaining to the activities of the district probation department; developing and implementing policies and procedures in from the division leadership.
Directs and supervises district probation staff and fosters a culture of organizational ownership and psychological safety. Duties includes but are not limited to: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions. Administers the district probation department for the state judicial system and is responsible for directing district probation programs and operations including improvements or implementation of procedures and/or practices. Ensures compliance with system rules and regulations. Develops and implements policies and procedures in conjunction with judges and probation staff for the district probation department.
Implements policy changes from the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation.
Directs development and management of district budget; reviewing and approving budgets prepared by staff.
Prepares a variety of reports related to department performance, goals, budget, investigations, personnel, crime statistics, and/or other related issues.

The salary range for this position is $92,070.28 to $112,178.73 per year. Note, salary may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.
Requirements
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related fields and 2 years of supervisory, or management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Rules, regulations, and procedures of the Probation department.
Probations techniques and procedures.

Preparing, reviewing, and approving reports and statistical information and data.
Preparing and administering grants.

Interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Using computers and related software applications.
Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents may be subjected to environmental threats, odors, dusts, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and travel.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work
